Rachel Lindsay Learned Bryan Abasolo Filed for Divorce ‘Over Text’

Rachel Lindsay found out that Bryan Abasolo filed for divorce via text message.

In a June 26 file, the former Bachelor She claims she found out Abasolo filed for divorce on Jan. 2 “via text message” — and she included a screenshot of the conversation to prove it.

In documents obtained by PEOPLE, Lindsay, 39, claims she and Abasolo, 44, “had a conversation in my kitchen during which he failed to mention that he had filed for divorce” on same day he finally filed it.

“About 30 minutes after I left the house, he sent me a text message that just said, ‘Hey… I just wanted to let you know that I officially filed,’” Lindsay says.

Even though she knew that she and the chiropractor – who she met and got engaged to on season 21 of The Bachelorette — “were separating and heading toward divorce,” she said, having been “shocked” to learn he had officially filed via text message.

She noted that their “prior conversations” had been “friendly” and that the two had discussed how to handle filing for divorce in a way that “would not attract media attention.”

In the screenshot provided by Lindsay, Abasolo texted her at 11:43 a.m. on Jan. 2: “Hey… Just wanted to let you know I officially filed.”

“Wait what? » she replied. Later that evening, she stopped sharing her location with Abasolo, as seen in the screenshot.

Lindsay claims she “tried to talk to Bryan about the divorce to resolve this matter quickly and amicably, but he wasn’t interested.”

“He informed me unequivocally that everything had to go through lawyers. He made no effort – reasonable or not – to resolve this matter with me,” she says in the filing.

In the initial divorce filing, Abasolo cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce after four years of marriage. In a since-deleted post on Instagram, he called the split a “difficult decision”, as he said: “Sometimes loving yourself and your partner means you have to let go. »

Lindsay opened up about the divorce a few days later on her podcast, Higher Education with Van Lathan and Rachel Lindsaycalling it a “difficult time.”

She didn’t give many details but promised to “eventually” get into the details of the breakup. “Now is not the time,” she said. “I’m just trying to take things one day at a time.”

Lindsay’s June 26 filing came after Abasolo requested emergency spousal support and her ex to pay at least $75,000 for her legal fees, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE.

He described the living situation between the former couple as “very awkward and tense” as they both still live in the same house, and although he wants to “move out… as soon as possible”, it is not “financially feasible” for him.
