Sabers rookie dons Keon Coleman-inspired jacket after 2024 NHL draft

Keon Coleman is a pioneer.

It’s not necessarily a new phenomenon, as his fashion sense has been a topic of much discussion since the Buffalo Bills selected him with the 33rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He donned a sleek yellow jacket he found on sale at Macy’s during his introductory press conference, the coat sparking a good-natured frenzy in Western New York that culminated in it being painted on a downtown Buffalo mural.

Another Buffalo recruit – this one from a different sport – recently took inspiration from Coleman’s style, wearing a puffy yellow jacket similar to the wide receiver’s after being selected in the first round of the 2024 draft. the NHL. The Buffalo Sabers selected Konsta Helenius, a Finnish center who had 36 points in the Finnish Elite League last season, with the 14th overall pick, with the prospect donning a mantle similar to Coleman’s following his selection.

Helenius even gave a shout-out to his fellow Buffalo rookie in the 30-second clip. You can watch the video below:

We hope — for Helenius’ sake — that he watched Coleman’s advice video after Friday’s event, because it was full of invaluable advice that any Buffalo recruit would find useful (like the “tip” that people from Western New York have swimming pools).

Both prospects are expected to play significant roles in their respective teams’ futures. Coleman is seen as the centerpiece of a revamped Buffalo receiving corps that parted ways with Gabriel Davis and perennial Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs in the offseason, with the Bills hoping the 6-foot-3 wide receiver can make an immediate impact as an X-receiver. Helenius joins a Sabres prospect pool that, frankly, is getting a little crowded — it’s hard to imagine the team ultimately having roster spots for all of its young talent.

Western New York sports fans will have their first opportunity to watch Helenius and Coleman next month; The Sabres’ development camp begins July 1 at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo, while the Bills will kick off their 2024 training camp at St. John Fisher University in Rochester on July 24.
