Police officers smash black man’s car window during routine traffic stop

A black man says he plans to press charges after San Diego police smashed his car window during a routine traffic stop, according to NBCSan Diego.

Nicholas HoskinsHoskins, 31, said he was picking up his son from a bus stop in May when he was pulled over for allegedly running a stop sign. Police ordered Hoskins out of his vehicle so they could search his car for weapons. Hoskins then repeatedly asked police what the likely reason was for searching his vehicle.

Police refused to answer his question and smashed Hoskins’ passenger side window. The officers forced Hoskins out of his vehicle and handcuffed him. No weapons were found during a search of Hoskins’ vehicle.

Hoskins was nevertheless taken to the police station where he received a citation for resisting arrest. Hoskins said he had to pay $1,000 to get his car back from impound and have his broken window repaired. His 12-year-old son was also forced to wait at the bus stop for around two hours, without knowing where his father was.

Over the past year, Hoskins said he has been stopped several times by San Diego police for minor infractions like a broken tail light and tinted windows.

Hoskins said he has retained an attorney to possibly pursue legal action.

“It’s a bit humiliating. Emasculating. Sometimes I feel like I’m not a man,” Hoskins said in a statement.
