Elon Musk offered to help save Thai soccer team stuck in cave

  • Elon Musk said he was “happy to help” if he could contribute anything to the mission to rescue a Thai soccer team from a cave.

  • The team has been stranded for nearly two weeks and authorities are finalizing their rescue plan after locating them earlier this week.

  • Musk has been increasingly open about responding to people on Twitter, an activity that has been good for business so far.

Elon Musk said he was “happy to help” rescue the Thai football team currently stuck in a cave.

A Twitter user asked the Tesla CEO if he could help rescue the 12 boys and their coach who have been stuck in a Thai cave for nearly two weeks, and Musk responded affirmatively a few hours later.

I suspect the Thai government has this under control, but I will be happy to help if there is a way to do so.

It is not yet clear what contribution Musk might make to the rescue team that has assembled around the world.

First, the SpaceX CEO has increasingly engaged with fans and others on Twitter. In April and May, his tweets quadrupled, and Quartz counted that 80% of all his Twitter interactions in May were replies rather than original posts.

The reason for the change is unclear, but Musk’s tweets have boosted business in the past.

Last year, Musk bet on Twitter with Atlassian’s Mike Cannon-Brookes that Tesla could build the world’s largest lithium-ion battery in Australia in 100 days, or the company would do it for free.

The project met its deadline which, if it had not been respected, Musk had said it would have cost him “probably $50 million or more.”
