Hewitt gave a final hurrah on the London turf

LONDON (Reuters) – Former champion Lleyton Hewitt will begin his preparations for his final Wimbledon bow at this year’s Aegon Championships after organisers of the grass-court event at Queen’s Club guaranteed the Australian a wildcard. The unusual decision to hand out a wildcard before the entry list was known is a reward for the 33-year-old former world number one who won the Wimbledon warm-up event four times. Hewitt, who retires after next year’s Australian Open, is ending his career and will play just two tournaments this year, Queen’s and Wimbledon, as well as the Davis Cup. “It took us about two seconds to decide to guarantee Lleyton a wildcard!” tournament director Stephen Farrow said.
