Arsenal set to seek financial reward for sale of former player

Arsenal are still planning their ideal summer window for 2024 and have yet to sign any players to strengthen Mikel Arteta’s squad. They haven’t even managed to sell any players, but will now get a surprising financial boost from the sale of Chelsea winger Omari Hutchinson.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Chelsea to have have agreed to permanently sell the 21-year-old winger who was praised by Pele as a youngster to newly-promoted Premier League side Ipswich Town ahead of the new season. But it is now also reported that Arsenal will also receive their share of the money from the deal.

Hutchinson had a fairly eventful youth career, first joining Chelsea at the age of five before moving to Charlton Athletic’s youth team at the age of nine. The winger will then join Arsenal in 2015 (at the age of 12) and spent seven years in the Gunners’ youth setup before joining Chelsea in 2022. However, he failed to break through at Stamford Bridge and will now be sold permanently to Ipswich Town, where he impressed on loan last season.

Roman complaints that Arsenal will receive around 15% or 20% of the total amount the youngster is sold for – due to a resale clause they added when selling him to Chelsea in 2022. The Blues will likely receive around 22.5 million (including add-ons), meaning the Gunners could get between £3.37 million and £5 million, which they could potentially add to their summer transfer budget.

The gunners looks like to strengthen their attacking line ahead of the new season. Mikel Arteta’s side have been linked with considering a move for Wolves winger Pedro Neto or Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams, but are would have face complications in signing one or the other. Arsenal is also interested in favor of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, but nothing has been done yet.

Arsenal have worked hard to develop Hutchinson and he have even made a total of 46 appearances for their under-18 and under-21 teams, scoring 17 goals and providing 16 assists during the period. The Englishman was also was able to meet Pele and earn his praise playing in a youth tournament for the Gunners. Despite this, a lack of first-team opportunities forced the winger to leave for Chelsea, but not before Arsenal’s management added that clever sell-on clause for future benefits. Hutchinson, who scored 10 goals and provided six assists in the Championship last season to help Ipswich gain promotion, is set to make his Premier League breakthrough next season.
