Mary Trump to join Biden campaign in post-debate press room

Mary Trump, former President Trump’s niece, will join President Biden’s campaign in the Atlanta debate room following the CNN presidential debate.

A campaign official said Trump’s niece would join the press room because “when it comes to character, few people can speak better to Donald Trump than his family.”

“I am in Atlanta tonight to remind everyone who Donald is as a person and how he would govern as president, because the stakes are far too high for us to be wrong: We cannot afford to allow Donald Trump anywhere near the levers of power,” Mary Trump said in a statement.

Mary Trump has long been critical of her uncle and published a book in 2020 titled “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man.”

She came after Trump’s conviction in his New York hush-money case, saying the responsibility “must have taken his breath away.”

She said in her statement Thursday that “Donald cannot be trusted and we must recognize that his last administration was just a warm-up for much worse to come,” and she called January 6, 2021, ” dress rehearsal for a man. who will stop at nothing to access, once again, the highest office in this country.”

“He desperately craves power and has proven himself both unworthy of it and obsessed with regaining it solely for his own benefit. He must be stopped,” she added. “If the worst comes to the worst and Donald returns to the White House, none of us who have ever criticized him will be safe, because he traffics in vengeance and retaliation. I am here tonight because only President Biden can stop Donald and save our country.”

Other voices joining Team Biden in the chat room include California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), who has been a strong supporter of Biden’s re-election bid even amid speculation that he could to take the president’s place if he dropped out of the race.

Additionally, the campaign said Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) would be in the spin room, as well as former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms (D), who was just named a senior advisor to Biden.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas), Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) and former Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-Los Angeles), who served in the Biden White House, will also be in the spin room.

“Donald Trump’s room to maneuver will be somewhat limited tonight, given that the people who know him best do not believe he is fit to be commander in chief,” Biden’s communications director, Michael Tyler, said in a statement. “President Biden’s team, by contrast, will be a united show of force.”

Several Biden campaign officials will be in the discussion room, along with a group of content creators and influencers touting the president’s performance in the first presidential debate.
