IRGC ready to discuss gaming licenses as moratorium ends

Statewide in Iowa – The state legislature’s moratorium on new gaming licenses is set to expire at the end of this month. Racing and Gaming Commission Administrator Tina Eick says she’s open to discussing the next step.

A Cedar Rapids group has announced it will seek an application. Eick said the Racing and Gaming Commission’s discussion will likely focus on the impact of any new license.

She said they will have a full discussion on any issues involving new licenses.

The IRGC rejected previous license applications for a casino in Cedar Rapids in 2014 and 2017, in part due to concerns about the impact of existing casinos. The IRGC only has new members since this last vote.
