NCIS Hawai’i Star Lands First Role Since Show’s Cancellation

NCIS Hawai’i star Sharif Atkins has landed his first role since the show’s cancellation in the new Apple TV+ series Me.

The actor, who played Captain Norman “Boom Boom” Gates on the CBS series, will star in the upcoming coming-of-age drama.

Me focuses on Ben, a middle school student, who must adjust to a newly blended family while realizing he has superpowers.

“Throughout the 10-episode season, Ben embarks on a journey of self-discovery and learns what it truly means to have superpowers,” the synopsis adds.

“He finds an ally in his half-sister, Max, who helps him harness these powers and uncover the secrets behind the mysteries and tragedies of his community…all while trying to come to terms with what it means to be Ben.”

Atkins will play the role of Darren Kennedy, with the series also starring Encounter’s Lucian-River Chauhan as Ben, as well as Arrival’s Abigail Pniowsky, Second Chance’s Dilshad Vadsaria, Miss Juneteenth’s Amanda Reid, Pulse’s Jessy Yates and Orange County’s Kyle Howard.

The 10-part series is directed by Vantage Point’s Barry L Levy and is set to premiere on July 12.

NCIS: Hawai’i was canceled earlier this year after three seasons, and CBS Entertainment’s Amy Reisenbach recently explained the reason for the axing.

“I’m a huge fan of television first and foremost, and I sympathize with all the fans who are disappointed with the end of these shows,” she told Variety.

“But ultimately, our job at CBS is to make these really tough decisions. We toss and turn and have sleepless nights and endless discussions, but we look at all the numbers.

“We’re looking at our projections for the future, we’re looking at where we see opportunities to potentially have even more success in the schedule. And we’re making those tough decisions.”

Me will be streaming on Apple TV+ starting July 12.
