AMMA’s annual general meeting meets witnesses to major tragedies; 10 members of the executive committee out of 11 elected

Kochi: The annual general meeting of the Association of Malayalam Film Artists (AMMA) witnessed drama as the event concluded in Kochi on Sunday. A mix-up arose during the elections held to select the new executive members of the association. A total of 11 members are required in the executive committee, out of which four are expected to be women.
However, the election committee decided to replace the two women who were in the running for the post, saying that Ansiba and Sarayu had received fewer votes and hence could not be nominated to the new committee. However, Baburaj, Jayan Cherthala and PP Kunjikrishnan opposed the decision and suggested that the same women who were in the running should be considered for the post. The panel thus included the names of the three women and the names of the 10 members of the executive committee were announced in the meeting.
The name of the 11th member will be decided at the next executive committee meeting, which will take place soon. Manju Pillai and Kukku Parameshwaram, who lost in elections to other key posts, will be considered by the committee. Kukku, meanwhile, also suggested the name of Sheelu Abraham as the 11th member of the executive committee. Kalabhvan Shajon, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Joy Mathew, Suresh Krishna, Tiny Tom, Ananya, Vinu Mohan, Tovino Thomas, Ansiba and Sarayu are the new committee members.
