Arsenal’s first player breaks silence on controversial Newcastle goal

Jorginho has become the first Arsenal player to speak out on Newcastle’s controversial victory, branding the winning goal “unacceptable”.

Anthony Gordon scored Arsenal’s only goal of the season, ending their 10-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.

The goal was thoroughly checked and upgraded by VAR after a triple review that lasted four minutes and six seconds, with the ball possibly out of play, Gabriel possibly fouled in the build-up and then Gordon possibly offside when putting the ball in the back of the net.

Mikel Arteta was furious after the match, telling reporters: “It’s embarrassing. That’s what I feel and that’s what everyone in this locker room feels.

“You can’t imagine the number of messages we’ve received saying this can’t continue. I feel sick. That’s how I feel. I feel sick to be a part of all this.”

Arsenal players have remained silent since the game, until Sunday morning when Jorginho took to Instagram to post: “Proud of the team. What happened is unacceptable. But we keep fighting.”

The Gunners are next in action on Sunday when they take on Sevilla in the Champions League.
