The first electric Ferrari ever seen in testing, the fully electric Purosangue? – Automotive news

The Ferrari EV will be built at the new plant in Maranello, Italy, which has an annual production capacity of 20,000 units per year.

Ferrari caused a stir online when it unveiled its first-ever SUV/crossover last year. Essentially a sports car on stiletto heels, the Purosangue is an attempt to compete with the likes of the Lamborghini Urus, Porsche Macan Electric, and Aston Martin DBX. Now, the prancing horse will be emblazoned on a fully electric vehicle (EV).

There have been rumors that Ferrari is working on an electric vehicle for a long time but nothing concrete has yet been announced by the Italian supercar brand. Recently, a camouflaged prototype of what appears to be the Purosangue was caught being tested outside Ferrari’s new facility in Maranello, Italy.

However, upon closer inspection, it can be deduced that the vehicle is not exactly the same as the Purosangue. In fact, the final production version of this Ferrari EV will look quite different for the test mule. The prototype uses the body of a Maserati Levante SUV, but underneath, it will look very different when it goes into production. The images also show a dual-tip exhaust on either side of the rear bumper, which can easily be assumed to be fake units.

Up front, the crossover is mangled with Ferrari Roma headlights. The test mule rides on much larger wheels than the standard Levante with lowered suspension, hallmarks of a typical Ferrari. The front nose appears completely sealed while the wider track has been covered with plastic extensions.

According to a previous report from Reuters, Ferrari’s first electric vehicle is expected to launch next year. We expect the new Ferrari EV to be an all-new model with an all-new design and name and not a battery-powered version of an existing combustion engine model. More details on this are expected to be released in the coming months.
