RTL 5minutes – Cancelled acts, revised calendar: Extreme weather conditions disrupt the Siren’s Call festival

Festival-goers were disappointed when headliners Kim Gordon, bassist for Sonic Youth, and musician Bat for Lashes were unable to perform at Siren’s Call on Saturday at the Grund in Luxembourg City due to extreme weather conditions .

The festival faced significant disruption due to the violent storms that crossed the Grand Duchy on Saturday evening.

All shows had to be moved to the main stage at Neimünster Abbey and the Bat for Lashes concert was canceled because the production could not be moved to the Melusina indoor stage. Many fans came from abroad specifically to see Bat for Lashes.

Adding to the disappointment, Kim Gordon, the evening’s headliner, cancelled her performance at the last minute.

In a press release Monday afternoon, festival organizers expressed relief that spectators, crew and artists remained safe despite the storm. They acknowledged last minute communication regarding the cancellations and apologized for the inconvenience caused.

Severe weather conditions were reported between 8 p.m. and midnight on Saturday. To ensure safety, the bands scheduled on the main stage, Alvvays and Bombay Bicycle Club, were moved to earlier slots and performed without interruption.

The music on the open-air stage ended at 8 p.m. and the following concerts were scheduled to take place in Melusina as planned.

However, Bat for Lashes was supposed to perform on the main stage, which was no longer accessible. Attempts to move the performance to Melusina failed due to technical reasons, leading to the artist’s cancellation.

The biggest disappointment came when Kim Gordon’s team canceled their concert at Melusina less than an hour before the performance.

Due to bad weather, Gordon’s management decided to leave Luxembourg earlier than planned to take a ferry to Glastonbury in England.

The show was completely canceled, leaving fans with an empty stage. This last minute cancellation particularly upset those who had come from abroad to see it.

Organizers admitted their communication was not ideal but stressed they did their best given the weather conditions.

They hinted that good news to come would offset the disruption, leaving fans with a glimmer of hope.
