Free Leadership Training for Families of Children in Early Intervention or Kindergarten — Early Learning Resource Centre Region 5

Parent to Parent Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Office of Child Development and Early Learning will soon host a free leadership development training for families of children receiving early intervention or preschool services.

Competence and Confidence: Partners in Policymaking will provide free training during a series of sessions from September to May.

Course participants will be able to:

  • Learn more about the Early Intervention (EI) system for infants, toddlers and preschoolers.

  • Connect with other families

  • Develop skills to defend the interests of their family and others

As the number of participants is limited, interested persons are invited to apply now. The deadline for applications is August 5, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. Applicants will be notified by September 6 if they are selected.

Applicants must:

  • Have a child between birth and age five who is currently receiving public infant/toddler or preschool EI services

  • Have the desire to defend their interests and those of others

  • Can commit to participating in all eight sessions

Accommodation, meals, mileage and child care reimbursement will be provided to participants.

The program of sessions is as follows:

  • September 27, 2004 (virtual) – 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

  • October 18-19, 2024 (DoubleTree Hotel in Lancaster) – Friday at 1 p.m. to Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

  • November 15-16, 2024 (DoubleTree Hotel) – Friday 1:00 PM to Saturday 3:30 PM

  • January 31, 2025 (virtual) – 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • February 28, 2025 (virtual) – 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • March 21-22, 2025 (DoubleTree Hotel) – Friday 1:00 PM to Saturday 3:30 PM

  • April 25, 2025 (virtual) – 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • May 16-17, 2025 (DoubleTree Hotel) – Friday 1:00 PM to Saturday 3:30 PM

The sessions are funded by the Pennsylvania Office of Child Development and Early Learning, with support from the Temple Institute on Disabilities.
