Concerns over WR Room chargers may be overblown

When the Los Angeles Chargers made the decision to trade star receiver Keenan Allen and release Mike Williams, the move was met with some criticism. Los Angeles replaced them with younger receivers, which could cause problems within the offense.

Eric Edholm of NFL.com posted five storylines from the offseason that he thought were overblown. One of them was about the Chargers receiving group not being good enough early in the season.

“When the Chargers let go of Mike Williams and Keenan Allen this summer, it sparked concerns that Jim Harbaugh would end up with the worst receiver room in the NFL in 2024. I don’t think those concerns are well-founded, honestly, and with the kind of team Harbaugh is building in Los Angeles, it made sense to get back some much-needed salary flexibility and reshape the team in a different way.”

Sure, losing Allen and Williams is tough on the offense, but the Bolts have found a way to put together a quality group. If McConkey can take over, the Chargers will have found a bargain in the draft. The team also has star Justin Herbert at center, which could take some pressure off the young wingers.

“With Justin Herbert at QB, the Chargers aren’t going to suddenly stop throwing the ball. There may be fewer attempts per game, but in a Harbaugh offense, the emphasis can be expected to be on efficiency in the passing attack. »

The Bolts’ offense will likely be focused on the running game, with a passing game sprinkled in. Teams can survive without elite receivers in today’s version of the NFL, but the Chargers believe in the group they’ve assembled.
