BET Awards viewers were disappointed as Usher’s heartfelt speech for the Lifetime Achievement Award was largely cut off and indistinguishable due to an audio error.

The singer was censored for explicit language at the beginning of his speech, but unfortunately the silence lasted much longer than the swearing, leaving viewers at home missing most of his speech.

Usher began with an impassioned speech about the need to honor fathers.

“It’s important to understand that fatherhood is so important,” Usher said onstage at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. “For all the fathers tonight, whether at home or in the audience, I want you to stand up for me for just two seconds. Too often, we get to that moment and we say to our mothers, ‘Look, Mom, I did it.’ We don’t get enough opportunities to say, ‘Dad, I did it.’ So this prayer goes out to all the men who are generals to their sons and is an inspiration to our future black leaders, young men.”

He then mentioned that his father wasn’t there for him. When he started swearing, he was censored, which is understandable. However, once the mute button was pressed, it was held for far too long and viewers didn’t get to hear the rest of his speech until the very end.
