The fatal shooting victim was 14 years old

Fairfax County police have released more information about the fatal shooting at the Fairmont Gardens Apartments in Annandale.

When officers responded to the 4100 block of Wadsworth Court shortly before 11:30 p.m. on June 28, they found two juvenile male victims.

A 16-year-old boy was shot in the lower body and a 14-year-old boy was shot in the upper body. Both teenagers were taken to hospital.

Despite the efforts of emergency services, the 14-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries. The 16-year-old boy remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspects fled in a vehicle before police arrived. Investigators believe the victims were walking together in the area. A vehicle approached and the suspects inside the vehicle began shooting at the victims. Investigators do not believe this was a random act.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting and are asking the community to review any home surveillance footage in the area to assist in the investigation.

The two teenagers were not residents of Fairmont Gardens, although they lived nearby.
