“Beyoncé inspired my tequila brand”

Viewers of the 2024 BET Awards are still in awe of last night’s (June 30) ceremony. From Usher’s Lifetime Achievement Award tribute to the whirlwind of individual performances, viewers found a way to keep the televised celebration going. One of the night’s acts, Megan Thee Stallion’s latest business venture, has plenty to keep the party going.

On May 19, the “Down Stairs DJ” rapper announced that she was preparing to launch a tequila brand. Today (July 1), during her appearance on the Club Shay Shay In her podcast, Megan revealed that she has fellow Houston hottie Beyoncé to thank for starting the company.

When host Shannon Sharpe asked Megan what her next chapter as an independent artist would be, she revealed that it’s helped her grow in every way thanks to the guidance of Jay-Z and Beyoncé.

“When I was in the situation with (1501) and I wanted to get out of it, they told me I had to do it on my own,” she said. “Like, ‘You already know what this is. You already have all the tools. With all the legal stuff you’re going through, I know you’re learning something. So you should figure out how to get out of it and be your own boss.’”

Megan then spoke about Beyoncé’s suggestion. “Beyoncé was actually the one who made me want to have my own tequila,” she said. “Because I was the queen of cognac. I still am. But even though I loved cognac and I’ve endorsed a lot of alcohol brands, she was like, ‘Next time I see you, you better have your own. You have to have your own alcohol.'”
