We all know that Warzone requires good mechanics, but there’s a lot more to improving in Call of Duty’s popular battle royale than just knowing how to aim.

In this article, we’ll share essential tips and tricks to ensure you make the most of your time when trying to improve in Warzone so you can start winning more lobbies.

To get better at Warzone, you’ll need to adjust a few things.

The idea for this article came from a video by Call of Duty content creator WhosImmortal on YouTube, but it will be a mix of his own thoughts and mine with experience in competitive play.

So here are seven Warzone tips and tricks to help you improve in Warzone and win more games.

7. Make the most of your minimap

To start, we start by making sure your minimap is set up to ensure you get the best information to make decisions that will help you win gunfights and stay alive.

One of the main things to adjust to improve in Warzone when it comes to your minimap is changing it from a circle to a square.

The circle cuts off a good portion of the available map, limiting the amount of information you can have at any one time.

Being able to see a red dot on your map to indicate a location or not seeing it is a no-brainer. Make your minimap a square, not a circle.

6. Position yourself and have a plan or three

Staying on the theme of awareness of your surroundings, positioning and forward thinking is extremely important.

One of the most overlooked things when it comes to Warzone tips and tricks is making sure you think about the circle, what’s in it, where enemies are most likely coming from (hot drops), and planning your position and escape route accordingly.

Getting stuck between multiple squads because you didn’t think about your position or route is frustrating. So take a moment, look around, and figure out what your best options are to get there.

5. Loot more efficiently

Just like when you get caught with your pants down, you don’t want to get caught in loot displays because you just can’t navigate through them fast enough.

This can be compared to pretty much anything that makes it difficult for you to defend yourself, like going into your smoke screen as Brimstone in Valorant, or trying to line up that smoke throw you thought you really knew in Counter-Strike.

It is essential that your game is set up to allow for efficient looting for your upgrade journey in Warzone.

You’ll want to change your “Interact/Reload Behavior” setting so that it feels natural and comfortable to you. We recommend tapping to interact, and then deciding whether you want it to take priority over reloading or not.

You want to be able to interact quickly and pick up items, because the less time you spend trying to do that, the more time you can spend moving, aiming, and winning.

4. Enhance this move with slide changes

With slide canceling making its return to Call of Duty with Modern Warfare 3, you’ll want to adjust it for the most optimal movement.

In your game settings, you will need to enable the “Slide maintains sprint” setting. This means that when you exit the slide, you will continue to move quickly and will be able to enter and exit the slide by canceling consistently.

A smooth movement will allow you to be more precise most of the time.

3. Know when to disengage

I know, I know. You almost had them.

But you didn’t! It’s easy to get caught up in a firefight and lose sight of the area or hear the other three squads coming up behind you. Trust me, I know.

Knowing when a fight has gone on too long or when it’s going against you can make a huge difference in your efforts to improve in Warzone.

It’s okay to understand that a situation isn’t going well for you and your team and decide to disengage and try again later, so do that when you need to.

2. Mid to long range control is important

We’re not talking about MW3 here, we’re talking about Warzone. That means a lot of mid-range and long-range combat, and yet many players build their loadouts as if they’re only going to fight people up close.

This part of the Warzone tips and tricks will tell you to make sure you have enough control over your weapon via aim, slow motion, recoil, kick, and velocity attachments to be able to take engagements outside of close quarters.

Slow Motion Aim Shift is very important because it allows for that slight shift when you aim down sights. The more you improve it, the more your ADS view will be constantly focused and centered. So if you want to get better at Warzone, make sure you have enough of it to ensure you can maintain your aim at a distance.

Along the same lines, according to WhosImmortal, MW3 weapons are currently at a disadvantage in terms of longer range. This is due to increased sway when unloaded, visual recoil, and the “bouncing and jerking” of the weapon when fired.

1. Don’t trust the pros and cons of accessories

It would be nice if the pros and cons of accessories during a loadout were 100% accurate at all times, but that’s simply not the case. Sometimes this is due to a backend issue or maybe some relationships between different accessories.

Regardless, for this reason you should always check in the advanced section of the detailed stats page that the modifications you want to make to the weapon you are working on are displayed as expected.
