Lincoln hit by severe weather again, leaving damage across much of the city

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Severe weather late Monday night into early Tuesday morning left a swath of destruction across the capital city.

It all started when the storms hit Lincoln a little after 11 p.m.

Shortly before midnight, the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for southwestern Lancaster County. That warning was quickly extended as the cell moved toward the southern part of Lincoln. At one point, the NWS reported that a confirmed tornado had touched down just south of Pioneers Park.

As the storm bore down on Lincoln and eventually left the county, the full effects of the damage were only just beginning to be revealed. Northeast Lincoln appeared to have been hit hard.

An entire awning was blown down at the Stop N’ Shop (Phillips 66) at 48th and Garland. Large trees were also downed in several areas between 48th and 70th, from Fremont to Holdrege.

Flash flooding also occurred in several areas of Lincoln, including downtown at O ​​Street, 9th and Garber, 48th and Cornhusker, and 27th and Superior.
