Parineeti Chopra reveals if the job she gets is different now that she’s a politician’s wife; reflects on the ‘patriarchal mindset’

Parineeti Chopra was last seen in Imtiaz Ali’s film Amar Singh Chamkila directed by Diljit Dosanjh. She is basking in the success of the biographical drama. While her performance as Amarjot was lauded by fans and critics alike, the actress recently revealed the film offers she received after the film’s release. She also revealed if the filmmakers’ approach towards her changed after her marriage to AAP leader Raghav Chadha.

In a recent interaction with Indian Express, Parineeti Chopra was asked if the job offered to her was different after her marriage to Raghav Chadha, given that she is a ‘politician’s wife’?

In response to this, the actress quickly replied, “No, not at all!” The actress mentioned that the first question she was asked was whether she would continue working. She pointed out a “weird and cliché patriarchal mindset” by adding that she was working (after her marriage). So, people stopped asking her these questions as well.

“There is always this patriarchal idea that a woman gets married and stops working. I don’t know why that happens. What does work have to do with your marriage? So, anyway, it stopped. I had my biggest commercial success after my marriage (laughs). I think people kept quiet after that,” she said.

The actress also revealed that she hopes to get “better work” after the release of Amar Singh Chamkila as people look at her “contribution” to their film and not whether she is married or single.

Parineeti then spoke about how the success of the film translated into the kind of projects she was offered. The actress said that “it was amazing” as she got different kinds of roles.

She expressed her belief, saying that her performance as Amarjot in the film gave the makers a chance to see in her what they had not seen in any film before. The Ishaqzaade actress then recalled how a director called her and said, “There was something in your eyes throughout the film. When I was writing my film, I never thought of you, but I looked at Chamkila, and now I can’t think of any other actress other than you to do this film.”

Pari said that if she had not played Amarjot Kaur, the makers would not have been able to see her “in a new way”. Hence, she considers it a “big plus” for her.

During the same conversation, she also expressed her joy at the change in fans’ views towards her.

According to her, “Amar Singh Chamkila has given me reviews that I never thought I would get. Everyone is saying that Parineeti Chopra is back. That’s what really meant the success of Chamkila for me. That’s the real reward for me, that people feel that I am back.”

The actress also praised Imtiaz Ali for bringing out her performance, something she had never achieved in her. Calling him an ‘artist’, Pari pointed out that Imtiaz was confident in seeing her fit into the character, despite watching his previous works.

She praised the filmmaker for giving her “the exact opposite” of what she had done and for supporting her. “As an actress, I can wish for it to happen, hope for it to happen, but you need a director or a producer to physically sign you,” she noted.

Parineeti Chopra has not announced any new project since the release of ASC.
