NOPD Announces Preliminary Crime Statistics for June 23-29, 2024

The following is a weekly report on citywide crime statistics compiled by the NOPD Analysis Unit for the period June 23-29, 2024.

Notable arrests made

During the week mentioned, the NOPD also made the following notable arrests:

  • On June 27, members of the New Orleans Police Department’s Violent Offender Warrant Unit and U.S. Marshals arrested Donnell Beard (Black male, DOB: 01-04-2000) in Dekalb County, Georgia, in connection with the New Orleans Police Department’s investigation into a homicide that occurred on May 23, 2024, in the 800 block of Canal Street. Beard faces extradition to New Orleans to face three counts of attempted murder and one count of unlawful use of a dangerous weapon.
  • On June 24, two suspects were arrested in connection with the NOPD’s investigation into a homicide that occurred on June 22, 2024, in the 600 block of Bourbon Street. Mia Lindsey (Black female, DOB: 3/25/2002) was arrested on one count of second-degree murder, while Maraiah Campbell (Black female, DOB: 5/18/1998) was arrested on one count of accessory after the fact to second-degree murder. Both Lindsey and Campbell were located by police in Columbia, Mississippi, and were extradited to New Orleans to face the listed charges. These arrests were made through a joint effort by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the NOPD, Louisiana State Police, and the FBI’s New Orleans Joint Violent Crime Task Force and Violent Crime Reduction Investigation Team; the Columbia (Miss.) Police Department; and the Marion County (Miss.) Sheriff’s Office.

Arrests for possession of firearms (arrests made under LA RS 14:95 and sub-articles)

So far this year, Northwestern Police have made 300 arrests for illegal firearm possession. That’s a 35 percent decrease from the 462 arrests made during the same period in 2023.
