Funny message on microfiber cloth sparks interesting discussion about eyeglass cleaning habits

People often clean their glasses with what they’re wearing for convenience. Digging through pockets and bags for a microfiber cloth can seem like a hassle. Plus, their clothes seem to effectively remove dirt and smudges without damaging the lenses. But is that true? Why else do eyeglass cases come with microfiber cloths? Reddit user u/ProShithead shared a photo of a “sweet message inside their eyeglass cloth,” prompting eyeglass wearers to rethink their habits.

The person shared a photo of a microfiber cloth that is typically used to clean eyeglass lenses, but with an interesting message engraved inside. It read, “This is what being an adult is all about. You thought you were going to use your t-shirt, but you used this instead. Yes, we see you. You took good care of your lenses,” the post read. The message was motivating enough to make people think twice before wiping their dusty glasses with their t-shirt or any other cloth they have handy.

Other Reddit users joined the comments section to joke about the post, pointing out how “millennial” it was, and also shared some helpful information. u/BonsaiSoul explained: “Depending on your health, the need for a new prescription decreases significantly as you get older. I’ve only had two pairs of glasses in 15 years. I’ll probably go back this year or next. My last pair died from a scratch from a metal shaving or something on what I thought was a clean shirt. Now I don’t bother and just keep a dedicated cloth handy.”

u/Shanghai_lili joked: “My shirt works perfectly fine. It’s soft, it’s clean, it’s available. And the best part is I don’t have to dig through my pockets or bags to get to it. Plus, I’m not really susceptible to weird claims. But that’s just me.” u/strawicy added: “I’m speaking from experience. There are a lot of people who just don’t know that the fabric of a shirt can damage their glasses. I don’t really think it’s childish to point out something people aren’t very aware of, but that’s just me. I guess it depends on how you interpret it, because I see where you’re coming from.”

Little messages printed or related to this kind of thing make us think about small habits that sometimes need to be changed. But other times, some notes found in strange places make us speculate on many things as to their origins. Once, a strange note recovered from Elizabeth Castle in Jersey mentioned the name of a British secret agent who worked for MI6. The humorous note was left by one EA Blampied and is dated February 26, 1966. It reads: “007 JAMES BOND / February 26, 1966. / PS SECRET AGENT. / DON’T TELL ANYONE.”

Along with the strange note were 15-18 pages from the weekly newspaper ‘Reveille’ dated 23rd February of that year. Harvey Doolan, Head of Historic Buildings, spoke to the BBC and speculated that the person who signed the note as EA Blampied could be a well-known Jersey artist, Edmund Blampied. Doolan called it “quite an eclectic mix to find”. He speculated that the author of the note was a big fan of the super spy.
