‘Overrated’: Caitlin Clark Suffers From Fan Cynicism After Christie Sides ‘Gaffe’ As Kelsey Plum Overtakes Fever To The Finish Line

The higher you rise, the harder you fall. The Indiana Fever’s last game saw them defeat Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury. The first of those wins came from golden rookie Caitlin Clark. As much as they would have liked to do something similar tonight, the team lost to all four of the Aces’ Olympic starters. So, with Kelsey Plum posting her best score of the season against the first overall pick, fans are now questioning their loyalty.

T-Mobile Arena has seen a record attendance for a WNBA regular season game since 1999. An astonishing 20,366 fans turned out for the Fever-Aces game, most wearing No. 22 jerseys to cheer on the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer. However, another star took center stage as the rookie failed miserably. It wasn’t A’ja Wilson, but Kelsey Plum who took the throne tonight with 34 points. A whopping percentage that she got in the final 10 minutes of regulation.

Everyone had one thing on their minds when Caitlin Clark didn’t make a shot in the fourth quarter. Those were the words of head coach Christie Sides. A few games earlier, Sides had made a “blunder” when she pointed out that her rookie wasn’t shooting much. Despite the coach’s efforts to push the No. 22 guard, she only made 12 shots in the entire game. Worse yet, she only converted four of those shots.

Do you think Caitlin Clark is overrated?

Result? Fans are back to trolling Caitlin Clark despite her double-double of 13 points and 11 assists.

Flying Caitlin Clark returns to the cage as fans antagonize her and Fever head coach

The win over the Mercury Phoenix was well worth the standing ovation the rookie received as she exited Footprint Arena. However, her lost magic two nights later hurt the Indiana fans. One fan took to the X platform to show his disappointment in the 6-foot-1 point guard. They were clear and blunt when they suggested the 22-year-old Fever rookie was overrated. They also added that Kelsey Plum was much better than her.

“CAITLIN CLARK IS OVERRATED… She’s no better than Kelsey Plum”

Another person came out to criticize the rookie who has only played 20 games in her WNBA career so far. To justify their disappointment, they mentioned that Kelsey Plum is playing more and more like Caitlin Clark. The Aces guard put up 34 points on 11-of-20 shooting. Her shooting from beyond the arc was also brilliant, as she shot over 54% from three-point range. On the other hand, Caitlin Clark only made 1 of 7 three-point shots. The fan also mentioned that the two-time WNBA champion is not afraid to shoot.

“Kelsey Plum plays like Caitlin Clark should. She doesn’t hesitate at all to shoot that rock!”

One person referenced the All-Star Game in the comments section. She said she wanted to see the event on July 28 to see Caitlin Clark play on a better team. She indirectly suggested that the rookie dubbed a generational talent is not proving herself in the WNBA. The fan blamed the Fever coach and the rest of the team for this situation.

“I’m looking forward to watching the All-Star Game to see Caitlin Clark play with skilled players and a good coach.”

One basketball fan expressed his dismay by pointing out one of the worst quarters Clark has ever played. During the fourth quarter, she didn’t shoot. Yet, she managed to commit several fouls and turnovers. The fan attached a gif asking, “What do we do?” while mentioning the reason Indiana lost by 19 points.

“So, @IndianaFever “They’re down 6 points going into the 4th quarter and Caitlin Clark doesn’t get a single field goal attempt in the last quarter and they end up losing by 19 points.”

An X user and Aces fan mentioned what Kelsey Plum was thinking when the 22-year-old defended the veteran. In the clip they attached, Shannon Sharpe, who greeted the Under Armour Dawg after the win, was saying the names of foods out loud. They suggested that this is how Plum cooked Caitlin Clark.

Tonight was another example of how quickly WNBA fans switch sides. While Caitlin Clark’s team didn’t come out on top, three of its starters again scored in double figures. Aliyah Boston also had a double-double with the rookie. Only time will tell if Indiana can ever get the better of Vegas this season, with two games remaining.
