Bakersfield women’s soccer team announces 2024 schedule

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield women’s soccer program and head coach Bernardo Silva announce the 2024 schedule, which includes a 20-game regular season with 9 home games at Main Soccer Field and a road trip to face San Diego State (14-3-3 in 2023) and Texas (#18 nationally in 2023).

Silva enters his second season with the Runners as the program looks to improve on last year’s results, where the team finished 3-10-4 overall and 2-5-3 in conference play.

The Roadrunners kick off the year with two exhibition games at home. The first is the Blue vs. White game, an intrasquad game between members of the team that will take place on August 3 at 7 p.m. Bakersfield will host Trinity Western University of Canada for a preseason game on August 8 at 6 p.m. PT.

“I couldn’t be more excited about the fantastic fall schedule we’ve been able to put together for our program, our players, our fans and our community,” Silva said. “This is my first time releasing a schedule as a head coach and I want to say without a doubt that any player that comes to play for our program will be playing in great games against the best of the best and we as a program want to instill a sense of confidence that we can compete with anyone, anywhere, at any time.”

The 2024 schedule includes ten non-conference games. Bakersfield will open the regular season with a road trip to Southern California to face San Diego State on August 15 at 7 p.m. and three days later they will travel to Texas to face the Texas Longhorns who finished their 2023 campaign ranked 18th nationally.

CSUB will begin its home games on August 25 at 12:00 p.m., when it hosts Weber State. The team will return to the road starting August 29, for a four-game series that will see it face notable opponents such as Saint Mary’s, Cal, UNLV and Fresno State.

“A non-conference schedule with opponents like San Diego State, Texas, Cal Berkeley and several others will test our group in multiple ways and help prepare us for the challenges the Big West Conference will bring. That mindset is the one we have now and will carry into the future and I look forward to an exciting fall season with this group,” Silva said.

Non-conference play concludes at home with three straight games for the Runners as they host Loyola Marymount (CSUB Rowdy Run annual), Sacramento State and Nevada (Senior Night). Silva hosts his former team Sacramento State on September 15. Last year, the team finished the matchup against the Hornets in a tie. This year, Silva and the team look to beat Sac State on their home court.

Bakersfield opens Big West action on the road with two straight away games. CSUB will travel to Hawaii on September 26 at 7:00 p.m. HST, followed by a game against UC Davis on September 29 at 1:00 p.m.

After two road trips, the team will host back-to-back conference games. Bakersfield will face the UC San Diego Tritons for the conference home opener on October 3 at 7 p.m. Three days later, on October 6 at 5 p.m., they will host the UC Riverside Highlanders.

Away conference play continues for two games the following weekend for the Runners as they travel to SoCal to face UC Irvine and Long Beach State.

CSUB returns home for a three-game series to close out the action at Main Soccer Field as they host UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly and CSUN. The final home game of the season and Senior Day will be on October 24 at 7 p.m. as they host the Matadors in Bakersfield.

The conference concludes with an away game against defending Big West champion Cal State Fullerton on Oct. 31 at 7 p.m.

The 2024 Big West Women’s Soccer Championships will begin on Sunday, Nov. 3. The teams that finish in the top six in the conference standings at the end of the regular season will earn their berth.
