Who Wants to Be a Millionaire with Jeremy Clarkson Cancelled by ITV

Jeremy Clarkson’s Who Wants to Be a Millionaire has been cancelled by ITV, with the broadcaster confirming it has “no further commitments” to the controversial host.

ITV boss Carolyn McCall told Variety that they have no plans to produce further seasons of the series beyond the one already in production.

McCall said: “We have a contract. We’re contracted for this season, so we’re going to do it. And then, we have no future commitments. And we haven’t made any statements about that.”

The move comes just weeks after Clarkson admitted ITV was “incandescent” towards her over her controversial remarks about Meghan Markle in her column in The Sun.

McCall also reiterated ITV’s opposition to Clarkson’s since-deleted column in which he fantasized about Markle being stripped naked and pelted with excrement.

She said: “We moved much quicker than anyone else, including Amazon. We simply said: ‘Yes, we do not endorse a single word he said about this. And there is no place for it on ITV.’

The network’s head of television, Kevin Lygo, had previously described Clarkson’s comments as “horrible”.

Clarkson has twice apologized for his column, in which he said he “hated” Markle and negatively compared the former actor to serial killer Rose West.

In January, Clarkson released a lengthy apology letter in which he claimed to have reached out directly to Markle and Prince Harry to apologize. The former Top Gear presenter has since deleted the apology from his Instagram account.

It has also been reported that Amazon is set to part ways with the presenter once all existing commitments have been fulfilled.

Clarkson currently hosts two of Amazon’s most popular shows, The Grand Tour and Clarkson’s Farm, but has no plans to order more after their upcoming seasons.
