Senator Lea Webb Announces 2024 New York State Senate Youth Leadership Award Recipients for Senatorial District 52

SOUTH LEVEL, NEW YORK – To close out the 2023-24 school year, Senator Lea Webb announced the recipients of the 2024 New York State Senate Youth Leadership Recognition Awards in her district. This prestigious program provides an opportunity for sophomores, juniors, and seniors to be recognized for their outstanding academic achievements, extracurricular involvement, and volunteer activities. Students were nominated by an educator or school administrator and received an official certificate of recognition from the State Senate.

Ten outstanding students from five schools in Senatorial District 52 were honored with this prestigious award. The 2024 Youth Leadership Recognition Award recipients are:

Binghamton High School:

  • Edward W. Clarke, Grade 12
  • Aidan Sheehan, Grade 12
  • Maria Mustafa, 11th grade
  • Miranda Sekai Chiguma, 10th grade

Whitney Point High School:

  • Owen Standish-Warpus, Grade 12
  • Ian McMullen, Grade 12
  • Valerie Barrows, Grade 12

Ithaca High School:

George Junior Republic Elementary School:

  • Shannon Dunlap, Grade 11

Lehman Alternative High School:

“It is a joy to see the unlimited potential and dedication of the young people in our community,” said Senator Lea Webb. “I am proud to recognize these ten exceptional students from Binghamton, Whitney Point, Ithaca, Lehman Alternative School and George Junior Republic School. Whether leading in the classroom, excelling on the field, inspiring through art or supporting the community through volunteerism, each of them has demonstrated leadership and initiative beyond the expectations of their age. The accomplishments of these students are a testament to what young people can accomplish with passion, perseverance and a desire to make a difference. I congratulate them on this well-deserved recognition and encourage them to continue to strive for excellence.”
