Shawn Levy Finally Breaks Silence on His Upcoming Directorship of The Flash Movie

The superhero genre continues to be extremely popular, even though it is constantly undergoing changes. For example: the DCEU ended with Aquaman 2and co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran are creating a new shared universe. While we wait for the first phase of Gods and Monsters, stories continue to come out about the previous universe. For example: Shawn Levy finally broke his silence on almost leading the Flash movie.

The flash (which can be viewed with a Max subscription) was directed by Andy Muschietti, but it was passed around to a number of other filmmakers. According to a conversation with EW, Shawn Levy almost took the job for “a brief moment,” but it didn’t come to fruition. He explained why he hasn’t made a superhero movie yet, saying:

Every week I get offered a movie based on the IP and as you’ve noticed due to the lack of listings I almost always turn them down because I need to feel like I’m seeing a story worth telling.

Shots were fired. I guess the story was offered to him with The flash wasn’t enough to convince Shawn Levy to sign on the dotted line. The flashReviews were positive despite its long run in theaters.

It makes sense that Levy would be offered all sorts of intellectual property projects given his previous work. Specifically, his acclaimed contributions Strange things (which can be streamed with a Netflix subscription), as well as its genre films Free man And The Adam Project.

The flash lost a number of directors during its development, although Andy Muschietti might have been the perfect man for the job. The film felt like it was pulled straight from the comics, with bright colors, wild spectacles, and the inclusion of multiple Batmans. The flashThe CGI drew some criticism upon its release, but it was a fun adventure made possible in large part by Muschietti himself.

Although Shawn Levy has (understandably) rejected offers to join major IPs, he’s finally doing the right thing. What we know about Deadpool and Wolverine The film is limited, but it looks like it’s going to be a delightfully wild ride. Not only will fans get to see the fake feud between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman play out on the big screen, but that chemistry is also shared by Levy himself. He’s very close with Reynolds and Jackman, and they apparently had a lot of fun on set and during the post-production process.

It will be interesting to see if Levy ends up working on more major IPs after Deadpool 3or if he leaves that behind for a while. With Strange things With the final season currently filming, his schedule could be freed up for more MCU work.

Deadpool and Wolverine will be released in theaters on July 26. For now, check out the 2025 movie release dates.
