Kamala Harris to join Biden on next campaign stop in Nevada

Vice President Kamala Harris returns to Nevada.

A Biden-Harris campaign event will be held in Las Vegas on Tuesday, July 9.

This is the vice president’s sixth trip to the controversial Nevada this year and her 14th since taking office.

Details about the time and location of the campaign event were unclear, but the announcement comes after a Biden-Trump debate that many pundits called a poor result for Biden.

Meanwhile, Democratic House Representative Lloyd Doggett of Texas has publicly called on Biden to “step aside” from the 2024 campaign. Doggett is the first elected Democrat to make such a move.

“Having dedicated his life to public service, President Biden has accomplished much for our country, both at home and abroad,” Doggett said in a statement released on The Center Square.

“By leading a nation in crisis, President Biden has helped rebuild our country after the ravages of a pandemic, an insurrection, and years of Trump-driven wreckage. Yet for more than a year, many Americans have expressed dissatisfaction with their choices in this election.”

If Biden were to step down, Harris would be one of Democrats’ options to try to prevent Trump from returning to power.

Other names that have been floated include California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, but a new CNN poll found that 45% of registered voters would support Harris if she were to face Trump.

That’s better than Biden, who is six points behind Trump in the poll. Meanwhile, House Democrat James Clyburn of South Carolina told MSNBC on Tuesday that he would support Harris if Biden left the campaign. Clyburn endorsed Biden in 2020, a decision that helped Biden win The Palmetto State that year.

Harris’ previous visits to Nevada include meetings in January with union members in Las Vegas, a speech at Mojave High School in March and a rally after the presidential debate in Las Vegas on June 28.
