I am a regular customer at Shopper’s Corner. Almost every time I visit, I see another customer putting every different type of produce, even a lemon, into their own plastic bag. I literally have to force myself to walk away because my sarcasm would probably have overtaken a kinder remark, like thinking that only 5% of plastic is recycled, that plastic breaks down in the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the land where we live and eat. That includes your children and grandchildren.

This seems to happen more often around holidays and weekends, so I tend to think it’s tourists and second home owners, as I’m quite proud of the local environmental ethic. I’m so tempted to post bills to remind people “do you need another plastic bag?”

I wish Shopper’s Corner and any other grocery store would do this for me. It won’t make a huge difference in the grand scheme of things, but it’s a small step forward.
