A new Asian-inspired restaurant is opening on Pawleys Island. Here’s where

A new restaurant is opening on Pawleys Island in the former location of a now-closed local restaurant.

Andomiro South Carolina will serve Asian-themed dishes on Pawleys Island, according to the restaurant’s Facebook page. The restaurant’s Facebook post also states that Andomiro is hiring servers, cooks and prep cooks. Andomiro did not respond to a request for comment before publication.

The new restaurant will open at 12036 Ocean Highway on Pawleys Island, according to the restaurant’s Facebook page, which locals may recognize as a familiar destination. Sol Cocina Mexicana served tacos, enchiladas and margaritas, in keeping with its Mexican theme. The restaurant was open for five years before closing in November 2023. Sol Cocina Mexicana chef Armando Cobian said in September 2023 that the restaurant closed because the rent was too high.

The cost of renting commercial space has been rising in recent years. In 2021, the National Association of Realtors, which recently agreed to a $418 million settlement over alleged anticompetitive business practices, reported that commercial space rent increased 2.7% nationally and 3.5% in the Myrtle Beach area.

Globest.com, which covers commercial real estate, reported in September 2023 that annual rent for retail space increased by 3.6%, with Sunbelt states seeing even higher increases. South Carolina is considered a Sunbelt state.
