The family of missing Jay Slater has slammed a TikToker who claimed he “never got any money” on their GoFundMe page.

Callum Fahim has claimed he received death threats after he voluntarily travelled to Tenerife to help police search for the missing teenager.

After contacting Jay’s mother, Debbie Duncan, Fahim flew to Spain but has since withdrawn his efforts to find the 19-year-old after claiming he and his group had not seen a penny of the money raised to help find him.

However, Mr Slater’s family hit back at the allegations and said Debbie had personally given Fahim £740 of her own money for accommodation but he became “bitter” after she refused to give him further funds.

Jay’s family said they wanted to save money to fund specialist search and rescue teams, which would cost thousands of pounds, but had to wait for permission from the Spanish authorities. His family accused Callum of coming “voluntarily” for a “free holiday” and wanting to pay for his accommodation.

They responded to the TikToker’s comments: “We appreciate every single person who has come out. He’s a hiker. We don’t need hikers, we need experts.”

A GoFundMe page for Jay set up by his friend has raised more than £48,000 to help his devastated family continue their search.

“This is Jay, he’s still missing and people are crying because of money. This has nothing to do with money,” they said. “We’re not sitting here doing nothing. We’re doing everything we can to find Jay. We can’t go down the hills alone. We wouldn’t want to be held responsible for someone getting hurt.”
