Back to the Future Inspired by Coldplay

Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin announced: “Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Michael J. Fox!” He then sang: “With his Chuck Barry rift and the way he hit Biff.” A tribute to Michael J. Fox’s most famous role, as Marty McFly in the 1985 film Back to the future, with whom Chris has a strong bond.

“The main reason we’re in a band is to watch Back to the Future,” Chris told the crowd. “Thank you to our forever hero and one of the most incredible people on the planet, Mr. Michael J. Fox. Thank you so much Michael, our hero.”

Michael was sitting on stage in a wheelchair and playing guitar on his lap. He was playing with the band; you could see how much he loved being on stage. The audience was really inspired to see Michael up there.

Michael was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991

This wasn’t the first time Michael J Fox appeared with Coldplay. In 2016, he performed “Johnny B. Goode” in New York.

One of the reasons this story is so inspiring is because of the health challenges Michael has had to deal with over the past 30 years. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991 when he was just 29 years old and went public with the diagnosis a few years later in 1998.

He has spoken publicly about his struggles and keeps his fans informed about what he’s facing. In a recent interview with CBS News Sunday, he said, “I’m not going to lie. It’s getting tough…it’s getting tougher. Every day it’s getting tougher. But that’s just the way it is. I mean, you know, who do I talk to about it?”
