Prepare for Triple-Digit Temperatures in Southern California

Very high temperatures and poor air quality are expected to hit Southern California this weekend.

Extreme temperatures are expected throughout the immediate coastline on Friday and Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

“We’re all dealing with excessive heat, dangerously hot conditions,” KTLA’s Kirk Hawkins said. “Be careful.”

Forecast temperatures in Southern California on Friday include 98 degrees in downtown Los Angeles, 106 in Pasadena, 91 in Anaheim, 88 in Long Beach, 107 in San Fernando, 105 in Riverside and 103 in Ontario.

Friday is expected to be the warmest day of the weekend, but Saturday is not expected to be far behind. In most areas, especially inland, temperatures are expected to be a degree or two lower than on Friday.

Along with high temperatures, air quality will be poor.

“We’re seeing significant air quality issues,” Hawkins said. “A lot of that is due not only to the high pressure area that’s been sitting over the region, but also, of course, all the fireworks that are going on.”

People with respiratory problems should be aware of air quality before engaging in strenuous activity over the weekend.

A red flag warning is also in effect in Southern California, meaning there is a high risk of fire due to dry, hot and windy conditions, according to the NWS.
