Martha Stewart reacts after people call her living room ‘stuffy’

play

Martha Stewart is anything but “stiff.”

The TV personality recently responded to commenters who called the decor of her Maine home boring.

“I rarely read all the comments that come in after I post, but since I was so happy with the transformation of my Maine living room,” she captioned a photo of her living room on Wednesday, “I scrolled through many of the comments and was surprised at the harsh judgment displayed by so many!!!”

The post was in reference to comments made after the Sports Illustrated swimsuit model posted a series of photos of her living rooms on Tuesday, including metal-framed chairs, sofas and a loveseat; a table set designed to look like wood; and walls decorated with bird illustrations, with beige lampshades and decor throughout — all in a beige, gray and black color palette.

One reviewer wrote that the room felt “old and stuffy” and another noted that the decor made it “feel like a Marriott suite lounge in 1987.” However, not all of the comments were critical, with one saying, “I so missed your interior design segments. YES YES YES to all of this.”

Stewart, 82, said at the time that the furniture was rearranged or reincorporated from a previous home. She later elaborated, saying the renovated living rooms were completed in just a few hours.

“My assistants in Maine and I spent three hours moving the old furniture and installing the new ones. We were thrilled that the pieces fit perfectly in the room,” she wrote Wednesday. “This was not a professional ‘decorator’ installation, but a quick and efficient attempt at a change.”

She added that the salon was still under construction and that “color, plants, mirrors, a new rug or two and other art and objects” would be added, telling her followers to “stay tuned!!!!”

Stewart is, of course, no stranger to defying expectations. The celebrity lifestyle expert canceled Thanksgiving late last year because most of her guests canceled. And earlier this year, she became one of the oldest people to cover Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit issue.

“Being on the cover (at) my age was a challenge. And I think I succeeded in the challenge,” she said after seeing the cover.
