Netflix, Disney Ask Canadian Court to Halt Proposed Streaming Tax, WSJ Reports

Netflix (NFLX), Walt Disney (SAY) and other U.S. streaming companies have asked a Canadian court to halt plans by regulators to force streaming companies to pay more than 5% of their domestic sales in an attempt to fund local news programming and other domestic content, the Wall Street Journal’s Paul Vieira reports. The Motion Picture Association-Canada said the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission’s order oversteps the regulator’s authority and ignores the billions of dollars the companies spend in Canada each year. The association represents Netflix, Walt Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery (JMD) and Paramount Global (PARA).
