Man Who Joined Random Dark Web Chat Room Immediately Regretted It

To most of us, the dark web seems like a mysterious, somewhat fictional place that provides a plot for many movies.

Yet it is a very real thing, in the dark depths of the Internet, where most of us have never clicked a mouse.

Here, networks require specific technological software or permissions to access them. Oh, and as you can imagine, much of the content found on the dark web is completely and utterly illegal.

A guy once refuted a warning about the dark web, saying it was a complete myth. But when this guy joined a random chat room on this site, he immediately regretted it.

A few years ago, user “austinvro” took to TikTok to show his followers what he had found while scouring the dark depths of the internet, including “red rooms” which he described as places “where people can pay to watch live torture.”

He then went into a chat room with a stranger who told Austin they were “looking for a fun chat with my girls,” with the TikToker admitting he didn’t really know what that meant but was sure he didn’t want one.

In another dark web chat room, someone else told him they were “25-year-olds who were role-playing,” which led Austin to say they were “disgusting people.” Yeah, big regrets.

A lot of “disgusting” stuff happens on the dark web, like people being kidnapped and put up for sale on the site, while there are sites that pay people for nude pictures and give out contact information of the people in the pictures.

A 2014 study by the University of Portsmouth found that the most common type of content hosted on the Tor web browser, which is one of the networks that can be used to access the dark web, was child pornography.

The study then found that the most popular type of content was black markets selling illicit goods.

A hacker with 30 years of experience has also previously described some of the scariest things he has encountered on the dark web, including the use of ransomware – malicious software designed to block a person’s access to a computer system.

Speaking about some of the things he’s witnessed, he told Vice: “I’ve seen hospitals get encrypted and people are faced with a choice: Do I pay to have the data decrypted or do I risk lives?”

Well, the dark web is a scary place, guys – and remember, a lot of what’s on there is illegal.
