The Lawrence School District has announced a new assistant superintendent and a new executive director of curriculum and instruction, which also represents two changes in administrative job titles.

Larry Englebrick, currently director of operations, has been selected as assistant superintendent, according to a district news release issued Monday.

“This change in responsibilities follows an assessment of open administrative positions and the needs of the district as part of an ongoing budget planning process,” the statement said.

Jana Craig-Hare, currently director of data and assessment, will be the new executive director of programs and instruction, the statement said.

“Following the retirement of Chief Academic Officer Patrick Kelly in June, the administrative team assessed the needs of the district, reviewed the vacancy as part of the budget planning process and decided to reinstate the position to an executive director position,” the statement said.

Englebrick joined the district in March 2021 as executive director of facilities and operations. He was named interim director of operations for 2021-22 and then appointed to the permanent position in 2022.

Craig-Hare came to Lawrence Public Schools in 2022 from Baldwin City, where she served for four years as the school district’s director of curriculum, instruction and assessment, according to the release.

Both changes will take effect immediately, subject to school board approval, the statement said.
