Flight cancellations in Europe increase by 46% in June 2024

As we enter the peak summer season for airlines around the world, Cirium has revealed its monthly On-Time Performance (OTP) report for June 2024.The report shows that flight cancellations in Europe increased by 46% in June 2024, while flight cancellations in the Asia-Pacific region decreased by 16% month-on-month.

Cirium Global On-Time Delivery Report: June 2024

Europe:

· Icelandair is the new leader after being named Europe’s most punctual carrier last month, with 84.08% of flights arriving on time

· Iberia Express takes second place, with 82.50% of all flights arriving on time, followed by Iberia taking third place with an OTP of 77.69%.

· SAS and Finnair also make the top 5, providing their customers with a punctual service of 77.08% and 76.11% respectively.

· No British airline features in the top 10 most punctual European carriers.

Worldwide :

· Globally, Saudia was named the most punctual airline in June, with 88.22% of flights arriving at their destination on time.

· Ending its two-month reign, Aeromexico took second place, earning an OTP of 86.18%, just ahead of LATAM Airlines which took third place with 85.83%.

· JAL and Azul took fourth and fifth place, with 85.10% and 84.83% respectively.

Cancellations:

· The number of cancelled flights in Europe increased by 46% in June 2024 compared to the previous month

· In June 2024, 8,145 flights were cancelled in Europe, compared to 5,584 in May 2024

· This contrasts with the Asia-Pacific region, where flight cancellations fell by 16% month-on-month in June.
