Message from the Board of Directors to the Community

THE WOODS, TX — Dear Residents of The Woodlands,

As we reflect on the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, we are reminded of the resilience and strength of our community. This Category 1 hurricane made landfall on the Texas coast at 4 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2024 and moved quickly through our region, hitting The Woodlands around 7 a.m. with its most intense winds felt at 10 a.m. Unlike the prolonged deluge of Hurricane Harvey, Beryl passed quickly, leaving our region by early evening. Nevertheless, its impact was profound.

Our community, nestled in a natural forest, suffered significant damage from the high winds. Trees, already stressed by last summer’s severe drought, bore the brunt of the storm, resulting in widespread power outages reminiscent of Hurricane Ike in 2008. Entergy and CenterPoint have worked tirelessly to restore power, and we are in constant communication with them, as well as Harris and Montgomery counties.

We understand the challenges of these hot summer days without power, the loss of perishable goods, and the general discomfort this brings. However, let us remain patient and support the linemen and essential personnel who are away from their own families, dedicated to restoring our services. Our township and county employees have also been on the front lines, working around the clock to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.

Our parks management teams are now on the ground assessing and repairing damage to our beloved parks, pools, trails and playgrounds. Cleanup and repair efforts will take some time, but we are committed to restoring these essential amenities.

As we move forward, we encourage everyone to come together, help your neighbors, and demonstrate the unity that defines The Woodlands. The counties will manage storm debris removal in accordance with their protocols, and the township will support these efforts by providing updates and information to our residents. Please remember to place storm debris at the curb, separating yard and vegetation debris from construction debris.

In times like these, the spirit of our community shines brightly. We are confident that by working together, we can overcome the challenges ahead and emerge stronger.

Sincerely,

The Woodlands Township Board of Directors
