This week, Bowie city councilors got their first look at the proposed 2024-25 budget, featuring a balanced plan with a total operating budget of $23,296,885 in expenses, just over $1.4 million more than the previous year’s budget.
Mayor Gaylynn Burris said Monday night that the budget looked “eerily similar” to last year’s, despite the addition of some equipment purchases. City Manager Bert Cunningham said he has already cut more than $300,000 from department requests in order to achieve a balanced budget.
The utility fund is balanced with expenditures of $12,595,995 and revenues projected at $12,601,000. In the general fund, revenues are projected at $10,705,568 and expenditures at $10,700,890. Total budget expenditures are $23,296,885 and overall revenues are projected at $23,306,568. Cunningham said there is still a small margin to achieve a balanced budget.
