Uncoupled Saved by Showtime Following Netflix Cancellation

Decoupled was revived by Showtime.

The Neil Patrick Harris-led comedy is returning for a second season after being canceled by Netflix on January 13. The series was picked up by Showtime as part of its new content strategy as it integrates with Paramount+ later this year, according to Deadline.

In anticipation of the move, Showtime is working to refocus content around three areas: complex characters, franchises, and metropolitan cultures or diverse programming, the latter of which is Decoupled would fall under.

One of the show’s stars, Tisha Campbell, hinted to PEOPLE last week that the show might not be going away for good.

“I think there’s stuff going on behind the scenes, so I’m not sure,” the actress said during an interview at the American Heart Association’s Red Dress Collection concert. “I can’t talk about that!”

She also addressed Netflix’s abrupt cancellation, saying, “Nothing ever shocks me because, one, I never put all my eggs in one basket. Two, I never celebrate until the ink is dry…”

However: “It was shocking that we were number 3 (on Netflix US) and we weren’t present worldwide and we weren’t picked up,” she noted.That “It was shocking. But that’s the job. That’s just the way it is. I never take things personally. I loved working for that streaming network.”

The series was well-received by critics upon its debut, garnering a 73% critics’ and 76% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, although it only held a top 10 spot on the UK Netflix Top 10 chart for one week before dropping. Deadline Sources said the show’s producer, MTV Entertainment Studios, was looking for a new home for the series.

However, Decoupled might evolve into something a little different than what people remember, like Deadline It has been reported that with this new change, the series will likely be “daring and more daring” than its Netflix season 1 version.

The series will join the limited series led by Matt Bomer Travel companionswhich also features LGBTQ+ themes, on Showtime.
