Indonesia provides electricity to meet needs on Papua New Guinea border: Jokowi

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has appointed state-owned electricity company PT PLN to officially supply the power grid in the Wutung border area, Papua New Guinea (PNG), to support local community activities.

Jokowi made the statement during the official visit of Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister (PM) James Marape At Bogor Presidential Palace, West JavaMonday.

“Regarding the construction of the electricity network by PLN at the Skouw-Wutung border, I inform that this collaboration started today and electricity is operating in Wutung this Monday,” he noted in a joint press release with Prime Minister Marape.

Prime Minister Marape also commended the Indonesian government for providing electricity to the town of Wutung in Papua New Guinea.

“I hope we can use the electrical energy of Jayapura “In the future, we will be able to exploit Papua New Guinea’s various hydroelectric potentials and geothermal potential,” he said.

He also hopes that the use of environmentally friendly electrical energy from potential hydroelectric power plants in Papua New Guinea will bring economic activity to Papua New Guinea. Indonesia derived from clean energy.

PT PLN collaborates with Papua New Guinea Electricity Company PNG Power to provide electricity to Wutung, a village on the border with Papua.

This collaboration follows Jokowi’s bilateral visit to Papua New Guinea on July 5, 2023.

Using the transport and distribution network of the Skouw region, JayapuraPLN provides additional electricity to meet Wutung’s needs.

The meeting between the two parties also resulted in four cooperation agreements covering land borders for the transport of passengers and goods, the health sector and the education sector for the training and capacity building of teaching staff and scholarships for students.
