Bachelorette Jenn – Episode 2 Thoughts, Get Ready for a Season of Devin Talk, More Sam McKinney Story, Golden Bachelorette in Hometowns and Your Daily Recap Transcript 7/16

Well, needless to say, I think last night was a very emotional night for viewers, because we’re two episodes into the season, and last night gave us an honest look at what to expect all season. We’ll get to Devin in a moment, but let’s start with the fact that the show traveled immediately after the first rose ceremony for the first time. For “Bachelorette,” yes. They’ve done it once before with Ben Flajnik’s season, but it wasn’t immediately international. For Ben’s season, they went to Sonoma in Episode 2, and then to San Francisco for Episode 3. If I’m not mistaken, those are the only two times the show hasn’t stayed at the mansion after the first rose ceremony. So yes, technically, Jenn is right when she says they’ve never traveled that early before. But I didn’t want any of us to forget that glorious season that was Ben Flajnik’s.

-On the group date, Jenn and 8 guys went for a walk through the food court in Australia where they ended up eating kangaroo testicles. Disappointed that they didn’t make it to Sbarro. Doesn’t Australia have them? What about Panda Express? Anyway, back to Sbarro. Is there a reason Sbarro is in every food court in America when I’ve never seen it anywhere else? Then again, I can’t remember the last time I went to a mall food court. Is Sbarro still relevant? As far as mall food court food goes, it was pretty high on my list. But now I don’t even know if it’s still in business. Let me Google it. (Google Sbarro). Yeah, it’s still around. And now the fact that I just mentioned it makes me want to eat it for lunch today. Sbarro, save me a slice of pepperoni. I’m coming to you today. Unless the Cheesecake Factory takes me off course while I’m walking through Stonebriar Mall.

So the big “controversy” of this group date is Devin pulling Jenn away from the other guys to go get ice cream with her. Something we’ve seen happen a million times on a group date. Yet somehow it got Aaron to react like no other. Aaron, who literally has a twin brother who’s been on this show before, and Aaron acting like Devin is doing something so blatant that he’s out of his mind. Pretty weird behavior. Aaron says he feels disrespected and makes it a lot bigger than it should have been. You know what, Aaron. YOU could have pulled her away yourself. Why pick on Devin when Jenn was an easy target for anyone to pull her away. Not to mention this is completely producer-induced and to get the exact reaction it got. It’s just ridiculous how over the top this was.

This then turned into a steamy date where every guy made sure to shoot Devin. Not surprising. But what happened later at the after-party made it even more staged. We see her spending some alone time with Jonathon and then Grant, who she makes out with and ends up getting the group date rose with. But when it’s Aaron’s turn, that’s of course when they send Devin to interrupt. He does, Aaron goes out to blow off steam, then goes back inside to steal Devin’s time, to which Devin then comes back AGAIN to finish his time with Jenn that he originally stole. Again, none of this is organic. Devin was told to do this during Aaron’s time, and I’m sorry, Aaron has seen this show. He knows how it works. His exact reaction is what production wants. If he felt safe in his own relationship with Jenn, he wouldn’t be threatened by Devin. But he clearly is, and that’s why he reacts the way he does.

This isn’t a “kudos to Devin” thing for me. I don’t care what he does. Is he my cup of tea? No. Do I find him obnoxious? Yes. But in THIS situation, he didn’t do anything wrong. In the premiere episode, in his intro video, he told us all that he was loud. So, basically, he’s himself. Will the audience like this? Probably not. But as they say every season, there’s a level of meanness in the contestants, and to me, while in the definition of “mean” on this show, Devin certainly fits that because he once said the line “I’m not here for the guys, I’m here for Jenn,” I can name at least 10 past contestants who have acted worse than Devin. Hell, there are even other guys who openly support him and say that’s who he is. But Aaron, and later Thomas, have the biggest problem with him. I don’t care for the guy either, but he doesn’t hurt anyone. He’s just super cocky and overconfident and not afraid to tell the other guys or in ITMs. Some people love it, some people hate it. But get used to it, because you’re in for a whole season.
