Almodovar’s ‘The Room Next Door’ to Premiere at Venice — Mike Leigh’s ‘Hard Truths’ Won’t — World of Reel

We are exactly one week away from the Venice Film Festival, which will announce the programme for its 81st edition, which will take place from 28 August to 7 September. published my predictions, and Variety has some additional information.

Pedro Almodovar’s “The Room Next Door,” starring Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton, will indeed have its world premiere at the Lido. The film will most likely screen at festivals this year, including Telluride and New York.

Mike Leigh’s “Hard Truths,” which was rejected at Cannes, will also not go to Venice. What’s going on with that film? Is it that bad? I now think a world premiere at the London Film Festival is a possibility.

“Iddu”, by Fabio Grassadonia and Antonio Piazza, will be one of the five Italian films in competition this year. “Duze”, by Pietro Marcello, “The Bride of the Mountain”, by Maura Delpero, and “Napoli”, by Gabriele Salvatores, are the other films that I can confirm.

I have some additional information regarding the French titles. I have already mentioned the competition with “And Their Children After Them” by Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma and “Une Chose et Son Contraire” by Emmanuel Mouret, we can now add “La Vallée des Fous” by Xavier Beauvois and “The Quiet Son” by Delphine and Muriel Coulin.

Out-of-competition titles that will premiere in Venice include Jon Watts’ “Wolfs,” Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice” and Harmony Korine’s “Baby Invasion.”
