(FOX40.COM) — The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives recently announced it is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in a Sacramento shooting that left an 8-year-old boy in critical condition.

The Sacramento Police Department added that it has partnered with the ATF in hopes of identifying a suspect in the July 2 shooting on Kit Carson Street, about a half-mile west of the historic Sacramento City Cemetery in the Upper Land Park area.

When Sacramento police arrived on scene, they said they found the child, an 8-year-old girl, with at least one gunshot wound and immediately took her to a local hospital.

At the time, police said the girl was conscious and talking as she was taken to hospital.

In a recent update, police said the 8-year-old girl had made progress in her recovery, but still had “a long road ahead.” Police added that they did not know if the damage from the shooting would be long-term.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is encouraged to contact the ATF (1-888-283-8477) or the Sacramento Police Department at 916-808-0800.
