Inti Creates’ New Project Is a Pixel Art Adventure Inspired by Zelda and 90s Anime

On April 1, 2024, developer Inti Creates revealed a totally real Trailer for a retro-inspired 2D action-adventure game called Divine Dynamo Flamefrit. The trailer turned out to be a cruel April Fool’s joke (who could have seen that coming?!) but it was promising enough that some couldn’t help but wonder if there was any truth to the joke.

Turns out it was! The developer revealed a full trailer for Divine Dynamo Flamefrit today, confirming that it’s real and coming to Switch this winter.

Inspired by classic Zelda titles and 90s mech anime, Flamefrit features a combination of top-down action gameplay and first-person robot combat. You’ll fight your way through a magical land with swords and spells, teaming up with allies along the way – assuming the grunt attack/roll doesn’t get too annoying.

These Zelda-like pixel art pieces are commonplace on the eShop these days, but we trust Inti Creates to deliver something solid – the mech combat looks like it could help Flamefrit stand out from the crowd, at least.

The developer had previously announced that Divine Dynamo Flamefrit would be bundled with copies of its upcoming game, Card-en-Ciel, in Japan, but it has now confirmed a global digital release later this year. There’s still no firm release date outside of “this winter” at the moment, so keep watching the skies for an announcement in the coming months.
