FC Barcelona reserve team manager Rafa Marquez set to leave team

FC Barcelona reserve team manager Rafa Marquez set to leave team

Less than 30 days ago, Barça Atletic coach Rafa Marquez committed to his future with the club, extending his contract until 2025.

Given the exceptional performance of the subsidiary team last season, which took them to the brink of promotion, he was hoping to succeed Xavi in the first team. However, Joan Laporta and his teammates preferred that he remain in the youth team.

But today, the situation seems to change. According to the latest information from Moises Llorens, Marquez is about to leave the club unexpectedly.

On the way to Mexico

As revealed by the journalist, Marquez has received an important proposal from the Mexican national team that he is seriously considering.

The offer he received is for six seasons. The Barça Atletic coach will spend two seasons as assistant coach, after which he will take over the reins of the club for four years.

Unless Marquez radically changes his mind, his time at Barcelona is coming to an end. He will no longer be the coach of Barça Atletic next season, forcing Deco and Joan Laporta to find a new coach.

Drastic changes

With Barcelona’s first team set to undergo massive changes in terms of playing style under Hansi Flick, the board would have hoped that the subsidiary squad would maintain stability at least to avoid changes across the board.

Marquez’s departure, however, is a game changer. With both senior and secondary teams set to undergo massive management changes in the same year, it remains to be seen what impact this will have on the younger players and their promotions.

It should be noted that Oscar Lopez, who had been Juvenil A’s manager for the past six years, also left his post earlier this year, leaving Barca Atletic’s Juliano Belletti to take over. It is indeed a summer of radical change.
