Democrats welcome Biden’s departure, even as some remain silent on Harris – BNN Bloomberg

(Bloomberg) — Prominent Democrats including Bill and Hillary Clinton and former Labor Secretary Robert Reich quickly endorsed Kamala Harris as the party’s presidential nominee after Joe Biden dropped out of the race.

Other prominent figures, including some potential Harris rivals like J.B. Pritzker of Illinois, have focused their statements on praising Biden without commenting on who will replace him. Some donors, meanwhile, have called for an open nomination process to determine the ticket, even as they have praised Harris.

Here’s a quick look at some of Sunday’s comments.

Harris Endorsements:

Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton:

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro:

California Governor Gavin Newsom:

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper:

Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich:

Congressional Black Caucus (PAC):

Americans and people around the world who love democracy owe a great deal to Joe Biden. The Congressional Black Caucus PAC joins President Biden in fully supporting Kamala Harris as our party’s nominee. She has been instrumental in the accomplishments of the past three and a half years and has been a driving force in reducing maternal mortality rates, protecting reproductive freedoms, and ensuring economic opportunity for all. She will do an excellent job as President of the United States.

Amy Klobuchar, Senator from Minnesota:

“I think it’s going to be a tremendous boost in that there’s going to be a lot of enthusiasm, and I can’t wait to get started,” Klobuchar told CBS News. Biden “took the honorable path” by bowing out and Harris is a “fierce competitor,” she added.

Representative Ted Lieu of California:

Reactions from influential Democratic figures:

Former President Barack Obama:

We will be navigating uncharted waters in the days ahead. But I have extraordinary confidence in the ability of our party’s leaders to create a process that will produce an exceptional nominee. I believe that Joe Biden’s vision of a generous, prosperous, and united America that offers opportunity for all will be on full display at the Democratic Convention in August. And I hope that each of us will be ready to carry that message of hope and progress in November and beyond.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California:

Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois:

Hakeem Jeffries, Minority Leader of the New York House of Representatives:

First Lady Jill Biden:

Senator Chuck Schumer of New York:

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg:

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer:

Other political comments:

Former President Donald Trump:

Kamala Harris is just as ridiculous as Biden. Harris will be even worse for the people of our nation than Joe Biden. Harris has been Crooked Joe’s primary enabler this entire time. They own each other’s records, and there is no distance between the two. Harris needs to defend the failed Biden administration AND his liberal, weak crime record in California.
