MG Cloud EV: a new electric crossover on the horizon

MG Cloud EV: a new electric crossover on the horizon

MG Motor India has created considerable buzz in the electric vehicle (EV) market with the teaser of its upcoming model, the Cloud EV. Promising a unique blend of sedan-like comfort and SUV-like space, the Cloud is set to become the British automaker’s third electric offering in India, joining the ranks of the ZS EV and the Comet EV.

Design and dimensions

The teaser offered a glimpse of the Cloud EV’s design, showcasing sleek connected LED headlights and hinting at a panoramic sunroof. The spy shots reveal a bold-looking crossover, with a wider and taller profile than its ZS EV sibling. The Cloud measures 4,295mm in length, 1,850mm in width and 1,652mm in height, with a generous 2,700mm wheelbase. Completing the look, 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 215/55 section tyres add a touch of sporty elegance.

Performance and autonomy

While specific details regarding the powertrain are not yet known, the Cloud EV is expected to take inspiration from its global counterpart, the Wuling Cloud EV. This suggests a potential output of around 150 kW (201 hp) and a commendable range of up to 460 km on a single charge.

Positioning and competition

MG wants to position the Cloud EV as a premium alternative to the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400 models, while also offering a more affordable option over the brand’s ZS EV. With an expected price tag of around Rs 20 lakhs (ex-showroom), the Cloud EV is set to compete in a growing segment of the Indian electric vehicle market.

A strategic move

The launch of the Cloud EV is more than just the introduction of a new model. It is a testament to MG’s ambitious plans to expand its EV portfolio in India. The company has expressed its intention to launch one or two new products every six months, underlining its commitment to leading the electric mobility revolution in the country.
